**Where Is the Fear of God? A Prophetic Call to Holy Dread in a Casual Generation**

## The Beginning of Wisdom: A Revival of Reverent Fear

_“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”_

— *Proverbs 9:10*

At the foundation of all true wisdom lies one vital posture: holy fear. Not dread born of ignorance, nor terror bred of superstition, but a reverential, soul-awakening awareness of God's utter holiness and sovereign authority. Such fear produces clarity. It sobers the mind and humbles the heart. It is the doorway to divine instruction and spiritual discernment.

Today, this fear has all but vanished. It’s been traded for comfort, for crowds, and for charisma. But let us be reminded of Christ’s solemn warning:

_“Fear not them which kill the body… but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”_ — *Matthew 10:28*

This is not metaphor. It is holy mandate.

## The Apostolic Church: A Church That Trembled

The early church knew this fear intimately. It saturated their gatherings. It wasn’t conjured through emotion—it was invoked by the manifest presence of a holy God.

_“And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.”_

— *Acts 2:43*

_“And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.”_

— *Acts 5:11*

When Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Ghost, they were not simply corrected—they were *struck down* in the middle of the congregation. And what followed was not confusion, but conviction. Fear gripped the church. Reverence deepened. And the power of God multiplied in the fear of God.

This was not a fear that drove them away from God; it was the very fear that drew them into deeper obedience.

## Bold Preaching and Apostolic Unction

It was out of this atmosphere of reverence that bold preaching was birthed—unapologetic, uncompromised, and unflinching.

_“And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word.”_

— *Acts 4:29*

_“He spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus…”_ — *Acts 9:29*

_“Preaching the kingdom of God… with all confidence, no man forbidding him.”_ — *Acts 28:31*

This was not rhetorical confidence—it was spiritual authority rooted in purity, prayer, and holy fear. Their words broke yokes and shattered resistance, not because they were polished, but because they were pure.

## The Reality of Hell and the Certainty of Judgment

Modern religion has nearly erased the doctrine of eternal punishment, exchanging fire for fluff and judgment for jokes. But the Word has not changed, and God has not evolved.

Hell is real. Eternal damnation is certain. And judgment is coming.

- _“And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”_ — *Matthew 25:46*

- _“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”_ — *Revelation 20:15*

- _“In hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments…”_ — *Luke 16:23*

- _“The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.”_ — *Psalm 9:17*

- _“He that believeth not shall be damned.”_ — *Mark 16:16*

And as it was then, so it is now:

_“It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”_ — *Hebrews 9:27*

_“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”_ — *Hebrews 10:31*

## Obeying Not the Gospel: Condemnation of the Rebellious

There is no safety in profession without obedience. Faith that does not birth submission is no faith at all.

- _“In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.”_ — *2 Thessalonians 1:8*

- _“He that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”_ — *John 3:36*

This gospel demands allegiance. Not mere words, but yielded hearts.

## The Rise of Cotton Candy Preachers and the Curse of Another Gospel

We have entered a perilous age—one prophesied by Paul—where pulpits are filled with flatterers and showmen, not prophets or shepherds.

- _“By good words and fair speeches they deceive the hearts of the simple.”_ — *Romans 16:18*

- _“For there are certain men crept in unawares… ordained to this condemnation…”_ — *Jude 1:4*

- _“Though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel… let him be accursed.”_ — *Galatians 1:8*

They promise peace where there is no peace. They proclaim liberty while people remain bound. But God will not be mocked. As He judged the angels that rebelled, so will He judge the false teachers who have traded His truth for applause:

- _“God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell…”_ — *2 Peter 2:4*

- _“The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked…”_ — *Proverbs 3:33*

## Deuteronomy’s Curse Still Echoes

Deuteronomy 28 outlines a tragic litany of curses for disobedience—and though they were spoken to Israel, the principles echo through the ages:

- Sickness and disease

- Madness and confusion

- Family breakdown and rebellion

- Economic oppression and displacement

_“But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken… all these curses shall come upon thee…”_ — *Deuteronomy 28:15*

We see these curses today—not as random misfortunes, but as divine warnings. The earth groans. The nations shake. And God calls His church to repent.

## God Raises and God Humbles

He alone appoints kings and removes them. He raises prophets and removes pretenders.

- _“But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another.”_ — *Psalm 75:7*

- _“He bringeth low, and lifteth up.”_ — *1 Samuel 2:7*

No man is beyond His reach. No ministry, no movement, no title is immune to His sifting hand.

## The Blessing of Obedience and the Power of Holy Fear

Fear of God doesn’t only restrain sin—it births holiness, anointing, and favor.

- _“The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.”_ — *Proverbs 14:27*

- _“By the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.”_ — *Proverbs 16:6*

- _“To this man will I look… that trembleth at my word.”_ — *Isaiah 66:2*

Holiness is not a fringe message. It is a covenant requirement. It is the atmosphere where God dwells. And those who fear Him—truly fear Him—will walk in obedience, operate in power, and live in blessing.

- _“The people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”_ — *Daniel 11:32*

**Conclusion: A Return to Holy Trembling**

This is not a call to emotion. This is not nostalgia for an old-fashioned era. This is a cry from the Spirit of God: *Return to reverence. Return to fear. Return to fire.*

Revival will not come through entertainment. Awakening will not be born in comfort. The next move of God will be birthed in brokenness, in reverence, and in the trembling cry of saints who fear the Lord above all else.

Let us fall to our knees. Let us rend our hearts. Let us cry aloud—and spare not.

God is not looking for casual Christians. He is looking for holy men. Fearful men. Faithful men.

And revival will come where fear returns.

Let it begin with us.
