If God knows everything like he seems to suggest, and not only that he seems to have it all worked out, then what’s the point in praying or talking to him at all?
God is often mentioned as our heavenly Father, not just because He is our creator but He is also our mentor, our leader, just like your earthly parents. The purpose of prayer is another way to develop that relationship with God. We do spend time with Him and His followers in church and during bible study, but God also wants a personal relationship with you. How can you develop a relationship with someone without communicating with them?
The C.S. Lewis Institute wrote this about prayer, “Prayer is God’s idea, not ours. It is His gift to us, and it has a specific role in his plan for our lives and the world. C.S. Lewis certainly believed and taught this. On several occasions, when talking of prayer, he quoted with approval the French mathematician and philosopher Blaise Pascal’s famous statement that God “instituted prayer in order to give his creatures the dignity of causality.”
As you learn to pray and give your troubles and cares to God, you will begin to find that the struggles and trials we face get a whole lot simpler because if you ask, you will receive (Matthew 7:7-8) a plan to get you through the situation your in. It may not be the easiest or the simplest solution, but our God is a just God and He will help you with whatever struggles you face. If you want to read an example of how powerful God can make us in these hard times, then read the book of Jobe.
