Reignite the Flame: A Call to Unceasing Prayer

The War Between Flesh and Spirit

The Apostle Paul declared:

> “For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.”

> — Galatians 5:17 (KJV)

There are moments when we feel like slowing down, easing up on the gas pedal of our spiritual walk. But this is a temptation we must resist. The flesh urges us to take it easy, to yield, to surrender. Yet the prophet warned:

> “Woe to them that are at ease in Zion...”

> — Amos 6:1 (KJV)

When we become complacent, our guard drops. We lose our circumspect view, our urgency, our focus. We cannot afford to lose our spiritual edge.

The Mandate to Pray Without Ceasing

Jesus said:

> “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”

> — Luke 18:1 (KJV)

Paul echoed this divine imperative:

> “Pray without ceasing.”

> — 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)

Prayer is not optional—it is the lifeblood of the church. It renews us, changes us, inspires us, and moves us forward. The moment we stop praying, we stop progressing.

The Garden of Gethsemane: A Lesson in Watchfulness

In Gethsemane, Jesus asked His disciples to pray. He went a little further and prayed alone. When He returned, He found them asleep and said:

> “What, could ye not watch with me one hour? Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

> — Matthew 26:40–41 (KJV)

We must not let our flesh dictate our commitment to prayer. When we feel least like praying, that is when we must pray the most.

Reigniting the Flame

So many things can dampen the fire—discouragement, distraction, weariness. But we must reignite the flame through prayer. The house of God is not just a gathering place—it is a furnace of intercession.

> “Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer... for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.”

> — Isaiah 56:7 (KJV)

> “It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

> — Matthew 21:13 (KJV)

Let us return to the altar. Let us pray with focus, with faith, with sincerity, and with fervency.

The Power of Fervent Prayer

> “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

> — James 5:16 (KJV)

Prayer is the very thing that will carry us through trials, that will help us endure and overcome. It is the place of divine exchange—where we pour out our hearts and God pours out His Spirit.

A Final Plea

When you don’t feel like praying, pray. When you feel apathetic, ask God to reignite the flame. Cry out:

> “Lord, deliver me from this prayerlessness. Reignite the flames of devotion and commitment. Drive me to an altar of prayer where I can hear Your voice, know Your will, and rise with a fresh burden and anointing.”

Let us not forsake the altar. Let us not forsake the assembling of the saints in prayer. This is the call. This is the responsibility of the church.

Let us pray. And again I say, pray.
